Plot Evaluation of Early Plant Corn

Intellicoat coated corn and uncoated corn were planted in no-til soil. The Intellicoat coated corn produced plants with uniform emergence, strong seedling vigor and higher stand count, while the uncoated corn produced skips, stands that are not uniform and underdeveloped plants.

Seed coated with the Intellicoat polymer is protected from chilling injury. It remains healthy and ready for strong emergence once soils reach optimal growing temperatures. Stands are more even and consistent with higher populations.

Uncoated seed has a high risk of chilling injury when planted into cool, early spring soils. Once injured, the seed will not germinate and emerge normally. Patchy, uneven stands result, as well as associated yield loss.
